Nnamdi Kanu’s Brother Commends Nigerians For Unity At #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nigerians who joined the recent #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja.

Describing the demonstration as a remarkable success, Prince Kanu noted that it united people across ethnic, regional, and political lines showing Nigerians’ collective demand for justice and fairness.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, he said the protest, which took place on October 20, 2025, proved that the call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release is not limited to any specific group but reflects a nationwide concern for human rights.

He commended participants from diverse backgrounds who gathered peacefully to demand his brother’s freedom, adding that the unity displayed at the event highlighted Nigerians’ growing resolve to stand against injustice and defend fundamental rights.

The protest, led by human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore, reportedly faced heavy police opposition as security operatives prevented demonstrators from accessing key locations in the Federal Capital Territory, including the Presidential Villa.

Prince Kanu, Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s counsel Aloy Ejimakor, and several other participants were arrested and charged before a Kuje Magistrate Court for alleged incitement and public disturbance. They were granted bail on October 24 and released three days later after fulfilling their bail requirements.

After regaining his freedom, Prince Kanu took to social media to thank Nigerians for their resilience in the face of intimidation, describing the protest as a “movement of conscience” that peacefully confronted injustice.

He reaffirmed his belief that those responsible for his brother’s prolonged detention would eventually be held accountable, declaring that “heaven will always stand with justice.”
