Davido Immortalizes Late Mother with Veronica Adeleke Female Hostel at Clifford University

Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has immortalized his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, with the commissioning of a newly built female hostel at Clifford University, Abia State.

The unveiling of the Veronica Adeleke Female Hostel took place on Sunday during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered a heartfelt commencement address to the graduating class.

In his inspiring speech, the multiple award-winning singer urged the graduates to embrace purpose, resilience, and service to humanity as they begin a new chapter in life.

> “When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — the hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power,” Davido said. “Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”

Describing the hostel project as a tribute to his late mother, Davido said it represents her enduring legacy of love, compassion, and commitment to education.

> “My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and a giver who believed that education and kindness could transform lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Davido, who has often spoken fondly about his mother’s influence on his life and career, said the gesture was a way of keeping her memory alive while contributing to youth development and female education.

The singer was accompanied to the ceremony by his close associate and nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, who announced a generous pledge to sponsor the tuition fees of 50 students at the institution — a move that drew loud applause from guests and students.

Speaking during the event, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his outstanding contribution to education and his commitment to uplifting young people.

> “Davido’s gesture goes beyond philanthropy — it’s an example of leadership, compassion, and giving back. He has shown that fame can be used as a tool for impact,” the Vice Chancellor said.

The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting of the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, witnessed by members of the university management, faculty, students, and invited guests who celebrated the music star’s humanitarian spirit.

The new facility, named after Davido’s late mother, is expected to provide a safe and comfortable accommodation for female students, symbolizing empowerment and opportunity — values that Dr. Veronica Adeleke passionately stood for during her lifetime.
