Nigeria’s First Political Reality TV Show Wraps Up Inaugural Season

The maiden season of Nigeria House of Commons, the country’s first-ever political reality TV show, has officially concluded—marking a major milestone in promoting youth-driven civic education and political participation nationwide.

Created by Africana League, a civic platform dedicated to empowering young Nigerians to engage in politics and governance, Nigeria House of Commons featured participants from across the 36 states and the FCT in a simulated House of Representatives setting. Across 13 insightful episodes, the show combined debate, dialogue, and learning to inspire youth involvement in nation-building.

The participants tackled some of Nigeria’s most critical issues, including fuel subsidy removal, food price regulation, social media governance, implementation of the Disability Act (2018), health worker migration, curriculum regulation, and the push for state policing. Each episode fused education and entertainment, making governance and policymaking more accessible to the general public.

More than just a television program, Nigeria House of Commons evolved into a national movement—encouraging young Nigerians to view leadership as a call to service and civic responsibility. The show sparked widespread engagement online, generating discussions around accountability, representation, and youth participation. Since its debut, it has built a growing digital community of over 6,000 YouTube subscribers and garnered more than 20,000 total views, reflecting the rising interest in youth-led civic dialogue.

Speaking on the show’s success, Glory Nneka Ukwenga, Executive Director of Africana League, said:

> “Nigeria House of Commons was created to bridge the gap between young Nigerians and governance. This season showed that when given a platform, young people are eager to lead and contribute meaningfully. It has laid a strong foundation for a politically aware and active generation.”

As season one concludes, Africana League has confirmed that season two is already in development. The upcoming edition aims to broaden the reach of the show, deepen conversations on civic leadership, and engage even more communities across Nigeria.

Young Nigerians interested in joining the movement can register to participate and gain access to opportunities for civic education, mentorship, leadership training, and national recognition through the show’s growing platform.
