WapTV Named “Indigenous TV Channel of the Decade”

Nigeria’s leading family entertainment network, wapTV, has been crowned the “Outstanding Indigenous TV Channel of the Decade” at the prestigious Marketing Edge Awards held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Balmoral Event Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.

The star-studded ceremony gathered top executives from major corporate brands, advertising agencies, government institutions, and media organizations, all celebrated for their remarkable contributions to their respective sectors.

Since its launch in 2012, wapTV has blazed the trail as Nigeria’s first television station to feature On-Air Personalities (OAPs) communicating in Pidgin English—promoting inclusivity and bridging linguistic divides among audiences nationwide. Its rich and diverse lineup includes Nigerian movies (in English, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa), dramas, reality shows, comedy skits, music videos, talk shows, sports, cooking programs, celebrity interviews, entertainment news, and fitness content—ensuring wholesome entertainment for every viewer.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mr. Wole Adenuga, Managing Director of wapTV, expressed his appreciation:

> “We sincerely thank Marketing Edge for this recognition.

As a proudly Nigerian television brand, we remain committed to making our nation proud. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to our 40 million loyal viewers and over 840,000 YouTube subscribers whose continuous support drives us to do more.”

Today, wapTV stands as one of Africa’s most accessible and widely viewed entertainment channels—available across Nigeria and several African countries via DStv Channel 262, StarTimes Channel 116, GOtv Channel 129, and FreeTV Channel 751.

Fans can also stream content anytime through the wapTV Mobile App, available for free on both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.
