Ajibade: Super Falcons Aiming to Become Global Powerhouse
Rasheedat Ajibade has emphasized that the Super Falcons must aim higher and establish themselves as a global football force.
The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s team, boasting ten Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) titles and appearances at every FIFA Women’s World Cup to date. At the last edition, Nigeria reached the Round of 16.
Ajibade’s Ambition
Ajibade expressed her desire for the team to move beyond continental dominance and earn recognition among the world’s elite.
“As players, we’re focused and ready. What we need now is to keep working closely with the federation to ensure we perform at our best on the world stage,” Ajibade told FIFA.com.
“We’re saying we don’t just want to be African champions anymore — we want to be global contenders. We know we have the talent and quality to achieve that.”
Focus on WAFCON 2026
The Super Falcons recently qualified for the 2026 WAFCON after a 3–1 aggregate victory over Benin Republic’s Amazons. The tournament will also serve as qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, raising the stakes for all teams involved.
Ajibade stressed the importance of maintaining focus and consistency.
“We just have to approach it with the same energy and mindset. We want to be a team that can compete against anyone,” she added.
“The 2026 WAFCON is crucial. First, we must secure a World Cup ticket, and second, defend our title. We want to prove that we’re a stronger and better team.”
