CAF Champions League: Sundowns Determined to Complete the Job Against Remo Stars
Mamelodi Sundowns remain committed to their winning philosophy and will aim to finish the job when they host Remo Stars in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary qualifiers on Sunday afternoon (3:30 p.m. kick-off).
The South African giants hold a commanding advantage after thrashing Remo Stars 5–1 in the first leg in Nigeria last weekend, putting them within touching distance of the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition. The emphatic win was a timely boost for Sundowns after their early exit from the Carling Knockout, where they lost to Marumo Gallants in the round of 16.
Head coach Miguel Cardoso, who has faced mixed results early in the season, emphasized the importance of maintaining their winning mentality regardless of the aggregate scoreline.
“Mamelodi Sundowns have been built over the years with significant investment, which allows us to attract top-quality players,” Cardoso said. “We continue to strengthen the team and uphold the club’s legacy.”
He added, “We respect Remo Stars and understand their proud history in Nigerian football. But in the Champions League, history doesn’t win matches — performance on the day does. Relying on past glories or reputations won’t help us once we step onto the pitch.”
