Kompany pens new long-term deal with Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich manager, Vincent Kompany, has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2029
The former Manchester City captain took charge of the Bundesliga giants in May 2024, with his initial contract due to expire in 2027.
Since his appointment, the 39-year-old Belgian has guided Bayern to the Bundesliga title, winning 49 of his 67 matches across all competitions.
> “I’m grateful and honoured to have the trust of the club. From day one, Bayern has given me a fantastic working environment,” Kompany said.
“It feels like I’ve been here much longer. We’ve started a great journey together — let’s keep working hard and achieve even more.”
Bayern began the 2025/26 season by lifting the German Super Cup and currently sit five points clear at the top of the league table.
Club president Herbert Hainer described the new deal as a vote of confidence in Kompany’s leadership:
> “The contract extension is a clear sign of continuity and stability. Vincent enjoys great respect from the players, management, and fans alike. We’re delighted to extend our partnership early.”
Kompany enjoyed a glittering playing career at Manchester City, where he made 360 appearances and won four Premier League titles as captain.
After retiring, he began his managerial journey as player-manager at Anderlecht in 2019, taking over fully in 2020. He went on to win two league titles with the Belgian club before joining Burnley in 2022.
He led Burnley to promotion by winning the Championship in his first season, though the team was relegated after finishing 19th in the Premier League the following year.
