UCL: Arsenal, PSG run riot as Barca, City, Dortmund cruise
It was another thrilling night in the UEFA Champions League as European heavyweights Arsenal, PSG, Barcelona, and Manchester City all registered emphatic victories, while Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United also impressed with solid performances.
At the Emirates, Arsenal dismantled Atletico Madrid 4-0, with goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli, and a brace from Viktor Gyokeres extending Mikel Arteta’s unbeaten run in the group stage—still without conceding a goal.
Paris Saint-Germain produced the standout display of the evening, routing Bayer Leverkusen 7-2—their biggest away win in European competition. Desire Doue and Nuno Mendes both netted twice, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Vitinha also found the target as Luis Enrique’s men capitalized on Leverkusen’s red card to deliver a masterclass in finishing.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund triumphed 4-2 over Copenhagen, thanks to a brace from Felix Nmecha, while Newcastle United brushed aside Benfica 3-0, with Anthony Gordon once again on the scoresheet. Manchester City also ended their European away win drought, securing a 2-0 victory at Villarreal courtesy of Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva.
Arsenal’s ruthless display
Arsenal fans witnessed a night of dominance at the Emirates as the Gunners swept aside Atletico Madrid 4-0, maintaining their flawless defensive record in this season’s competition.
Viktor Gyokeres scored his first Champions League goals for the club, striking twice in quick succession to seal the win after Gabriel Magalhaes and Martinelli had given Arsenal control.
After a cagey opening, Gabriel’s header broke the deadlock, Martinelli finished off a flowing team move, and Gyokeres’ brace capped off a commanding performance. Arsenal remain one of just two teams yet to concede this season—alongside Inter Milan—with their balance of attacking flair and defensive discipline fueling growing confidence in a deep European run.
PSG’s statement win
Paris Saint-Germain’s 7-2 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen was an exhibition of attacking brilliance. Luis Enrique’s side made history with their biggest-ever European away victory, combining precision, pace, and ruthlessness.
Nuno Mendes opened the scoring before Desire Doue added two more. Kvaratskhelia and Vitinha joined the party as PSG punished Leverkusen’s missed penalty and subsequent red card. Even after both teams went down to ten men, PSG’s superiority was unquestionable—their clinical edge underscoring their status as serious contenders.
Dortmund shine in Denmark
Borussia Dortmund extended their unbeaten run in Denmark with a commanding 4-2 win over FC Copenhagen. Felix Nmecha starred with two goals and a key assist for Maximilian Beier, leading a disciplined yet adventurous display.
Although Copenhagen managed a late VAR-reviewed consolation, Dortmund’s superior quality was evident. The victory also marked the club’s highest away scoring record in the competition, while Copenhagen’s struggles deepened—they now have just two wins in 17 Champions League matches since last season.
Newcastle’s commanding home form
St James’ Park was electric as Newcastle United recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Benfica—marking consecutive Champions League victories for the first time in over 20 years.
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring from Jacob Murphy’s assist, making him the first Newcastle player to net in three straight Champions League games. Substitute Harvey Barnes added a brace, highlighting the Magpies’ strength in depth.
Nick Pope also made history, registering a rare assist—the first by an English goalkeeper in the competition since Fraser Forster in 2012.
City back to winning ways
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City returned to form on the road with a composed 2-0 win at Villarreal. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock following a fine assist from Rico Lewis, whose mature midfield performance earned plaudits. Bernardo Silva doubled the lead before halftime as the reigning champions regained their rhythm away from home, ending a frustrating run of European away games without victory.
