Margaret Obi Appointed High Court Judge in England and Wales
Nigerian-born legal expert, Margaret Obi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales.
Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, announced the news in a congratulatory message on his verified 𝕏 handle on Friday, describing her appointment as “a well-deserved recognition of excellence and integrity.
Obi hailed Mrs Obi’s elevation as a historic milestone, noting that she is now the first African-born High Court Judge in England and Wales. Commending her professional journey, he highlighted that her rise from solicitor to the High Court Bench demonstrates the resilience and excellence of Nigerians globally.
“Her remarkable journey from solicitor to the Bench, with over 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service, stands as a testament to hard work, integrity, and professional excellence,” Obi said.
He further emphasized that her success exemplifies how Nigerians continue to excel internationally when provided with the right opportunities.
Clarifying widespread confusion, Obi explained that Mrs Margaret Obi is not his wife, despite the name similarity.
“Due to the similarity in name, Mrs Obi is often mistaken for my wife, but for clarity, she is not. My wife has always officially identified as Mrs Margaret Peter-Obi,” he clarified.
The former governor also used the occasion to call for the creation of a Nigerian system that rewards merit and fairness, noting that citizens thrive wherever justice and opportunity prevail.
“Her achievement once again highlights the outstanding potential of Nigerians who excel globally when given the right environment to thrive. We must build a nation that fosters such excellence within our borders,” he urged.
He concluded his message with his trademark optimism:
“A new Nigeria is POssible – PO.”
