‎ADC calls on Amupitan to quit as INEC Chairman over alleged insults to Nigerian

‎The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded the immediate resignation of Professor Amupitan

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over allegations of political bias.

‎In a statement by its spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said a resurfaced 2023 social media post allegedly supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu raises serious doubts about the credibility and neutrality of INEC.‎

The ADC argued that the development weakens public trust in the commission and questioned its independence. It also alleged that there were attempts to manipulate digital records to hide past political ties, describing this as a threat to transparency.‎

The party stressed that an electoral body must be both independent and seen as impartial, adding that the chairman’s alleged actions fall below expected democratic standards.‎

ADC insisted that Amupitan must resign immediately, warning that failure to do so would undermine Nigeria’s democracy.‎

The party also said it plans to escalate the matter by submitting petitions to relevant bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association, and foreign institutions, while intensifying civil disobedience until he steps down.
