Anambra: Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Woman Over Abduction, ₦24m Robbery

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have apprehended a 23-year-old woman, Okonkwo Onyinye, for her alleged role in the abduction and armed robbery of a businessman who was dispossessed of ₦24 million and his Toyota Highlander SUV in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, noting that the stolen vehicle was recovered in Ogidi through a joint operation involving the Agunechemba Security Team.

According to Ikenga, the suspects had forced the victim into the boot of his vehicle, transferred ₦24 million from his bank account, and later abandoned him in a bush. The recovered vehicle, a white Toyota Highlander with registration number RBC 649 CN, was traced to Ogidi, where the gang exchanged gunfire with security operatives before fleeing.

He said: “Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the 3-3 Police Station, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, arrested one Okonkwo Onyinye, aged 23, in connection with the armed robbery and kidnapping incident in the early hours of October 27, 2025.”

Ikenga added that Onyinye is currently assisting police investigators with useful information that could lead to the arrest of her fleeing accomplices.

He further noted that the Police Command has intensified patrols across the state ahead of the Anambra Governorship Election slated for November 8, 2025, assuring that updates on the case will be provided as investigations progress.
