Mai Mala Buni inaugurates nutrition initiative in Yobe
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has inaugurated the state council on Nutrition 774 Initiative to improve food security and tackle malnutrition across the state.
The council was inaugurated when Buni received Mrs Uju Rochas-Anwukah, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health in Damaturu.
Speaking at the event, Governor Buni said the initiative aims to make every local government area a centre for community-driven nutrition action.
“Our administration launched a massive agricultural empowerment programme to boost food security, nutrition, and economic growth,” he said. “This has encouraged more people to go into farming and created room for easy collaboration with the Federal Government’s Nutrition 774 agenda.”
Buni noted that Yobe is working closely with partners like UNICEF, UNFPA, the World Food Programme, the World Bank, and UNDP to expand community-based nutrition services and improve maternal and child health.
He also said the state is investing in data systems to strengthen planning and accountability in nutrition delivery.
He called for the involvement of traditional and religious leaders, civil society, and communities to ensure no child in Yobe suffers from malnutrition.
“Our goal is to build a healthy and productive generation for the future,” he said.
