Omu-Aran Applauds Kwara Government as Waterworks Rehabilitation Nears Completion
The people of Omu-Aran community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have commended the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Omu-Aran Waterworks, describing the initiative as a timely and life-changing intervention that will restore access to clean and safe water for thousands of residents.
During a recent inspection tour of developmental projects across Kwara South Senatorial District, the Olomu Efon of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti Agboluaje, expressed deep appreciation for the government’s efforts in reviving the long-abandoned water facility. Represented by his traditional chiefs, the monarch, through the spokesperson of the Olomu-in-Council, Chief Lawrence Oladele-Ajiboye, the Petu Aran of Omu-Aran, said the community was full of joy and optimism over the project’s near completion.
Chief Oladele-Ajiboye recalled that the Omu-Aran Urban Water Supply Project was originally inaugurated in 1977 and served not only Omu-Aran but also neighboring communities such as Odo-Owa and Iloffa. He noted that over the years, population growth, urban expansion, and economic development had significantly increased the demand for essential infrastructure, especially in the area of potable water supply.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the waterworks could not have come at a better time, as residents have endured years of hardship due to irregular water supply and dependence on alternative sources. “We are grateful to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for reviving this crucial project. His administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and community development is worthy of praise. The water project once served several communities beyond Omu-Aran, and we are hopeful it will again be expanded for wider coverage,” he said.
The monarch also extended appreciation to the state government for the approval and commencement of the 5.2-kilometre Omu-Aran township road construction, as well as the completion of the Omu-Aran–Oko road. He noted that both projects have already started improving transportation, boosting trade, and enhancing the overall quality of life in the area.
“Our governor has shown genuine interest in the progress of Kwara South. The Omu-Aran community recognizes his vision and commitment to inclusive development. We are confident that these projects will contribute greatly to the socio-economic advancement of our people,” Oba Agboluaje added.
The site supervisor of the Omu-Aran Waterworks rehabilitation, Mr. Tunde Adewale, also confirmed that the project is now at an advanced stage. He stated that about 90 percent of the rehabilitation work has been completed, adding that all the treatment plants have been fully installed and tested.
“The rehabilitation began in February 2025, and the state government has been very supportive throughout the process. We have carried out a 1,200-kilometre expansion, which will ensure water reaches nearly half of the community once the project is commissioned. The only remaining task is the installation of a 500KV transformer, which will complete the process,” Adewale explained.
He assured residents that upon completion, the newly rehabilitated Omu-Aran Waterworks will deliver consistent, clean, and safe water supply to homes, businesses, and institutions within the community and neighboring areas.
