Stop Negotiating with Terrorists – Obasanjo Warns FG

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that Nigerians possess “the right” to seek intervention from the international community regarding the country’s escalating security challenges.

Obasanjo made the remarks on Friday during a Christmas Carol in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, reacting to the recent sharp spike in insecurity, which includes the mass kidnapping of over 200 schoolchildren and the execution of a military general following an ambush.

The former President directly criticized the Bola Tinubu administration, suggesting it is incapable of protecting citizens. He argued that the government must stop “apologizing” and “negotiating” with terrorists, and instead utilize forceful measures.

Obasanjo emphasized that the failure of the government justifies looking outwards for assistance:

“No matter what religion you belong to, no matter where you come from, no matter what profession you are in, we Nigerians are being killed, and our government seems to be incapable of protecting us.”

He then asserted the citizen’s right to appeal to the global community:

“We are part of the world community, and if our government cannot do it, we have the right to call on the international community to do for us what our government cannot do for us.”
