Tinubu sacks Chief of Defence Staff

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff and approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as his replacement, marking a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces.

According to a statement from the State House, the president also approved the appointment of Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retained his position.

Tinubu commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” urging the newly appointed officers to “justify the confidence reposed in them” and to uphold professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.

The president’s directive takes immediate effect, according to a statement signed by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
